Kogal or Kogyaru (コギャル) refers to gyarus in high school as an age range. It is a combination of Koukousei (high school student) and gyaru.
During the 90s, gal began to gain popularity among girls still in school, who had to adapt their style to their school uniform. They were called "Kogyaru" or young gyaru. Although they tanned and dyed their hair, they had to maintain their style somewhat limited by the uniform. This allowed them to embrace it, because they uniform was stylish, they used it casually. The uniform became an essential part of their style of dress. The Kogal girls could be considered the true beginning of what is now known as gyaru.
How they dress
Kogals usually made their uniform skirts appear shorter by tucking them in, wore their uniform shirts, beige, white, or navy cardigans, paired with a loose tie or bow, loose stockings, and patent leather shoes.
Makeup
Their makeup, while following the basics of gyaru, was usually more subtle, focusing on colored eyeshadows, such as pink, brown or blue, eyeliner, and false eyelashes.
Hair
Kogals girls usually keep their hair their natural color or dye it a lighter color. They wear their hair naturally or with locks, also they can make pretty hairstyles like pigtails.
